Over 130,000 badge holders descend on downtown for four days of panels, exhibits, celebrity appearances, and everything popular culture has produced in the last twelve months. The Floor, the Panels, and Everything Else about Comic-Con
The Exhibit Hall on the main floor is the center of everything: thousands of exhibitors spanning major Hollywood studios, independent publishers, artists, game developers, and collectible vendors. Most attendees spend the majority of their time here, and navigating it takes longer than it looks on the map. Hall H seats around 6,500 and is where the most anticipated studio panels happen. Panels, screenings, and signings run across dozens of rooms simultaneously from early morning until late evening across all four days. The programming schedule is dense, and conflicts are unavoidable. Most experienced attendees prioritize two or three must-attend sessions and treat the rest as flexible. Programming also extends into nearby hotels and the Gaslamp Quarter, where activations and pop-ups run throughout the week and are open to the public without a badge.
Badges, Preview Night, and Getting In
Badges are sold through an online lottery in two phases: a Returning Attendee Sale for previous badge holders, followed by a General Sale. open to everyone. Both typically sell out within minutes of opening.
Preview Night on Wednesday, July 22, gives four-day badge holders and credentialed professionals three hours in the Exhibit Hall before the general public arrives Thursday morning. It is the least crowded floor access of the entire week and the only time the Hall feels navigable at a normal pace.
- Exhibit Hall hours: Thursday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Rolling luggage, handcarts, drones, helium balloons, and functioning weapons are not permitted inside.
- Each badge includes an RFID tag for same-day re-entry.
Hotels Fill Before the Floor Does
The official hotel block runs through a separate lottery via onPeak, the convention’s official housing partner. Properties in the block include the Hilton Bayfront, Marriott Marquis Marina, Manchester Grand Hyatt, and the Westin Gaslamp Quarter, among others. These fill within hours of the lottery opening, which runs months ahead of the event. Attendees who miss the block book across the wider downtown area, Mission Valley, or near the airport on Shelter Island and Harbor Island.
Staying within walking distance of the Convention Center matters more than it might seem. The four days are long, the crowds are dense, and the distance between the hotel and the floor compounds across multiple daily trips. Groups that book hotels further out typically rely on shuttles or private vehicles for every session rather than walking.
Arriving Without the Variables
